10/15/07: THE GOD OF A SECOND CHANCE
The Old Testament prophet Micah lived during a time in Israel's history that was very similar to our time. Society had been gripped in the throes of greed and idolatry, of trying to "get ahead in life" at the expense of God's priorities.
Micah was exhorting the people to put off idolatry and material things and come whole-heartedly to the Lord in repentance, and He would bring healing into their lives, as beautifully illustrated in this powerful prophecy:
"Who is a God like You,
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.
He will again have compassion on us,
And will subdue our iniquities.
You will cast all our sins
Into the depths of the sea.
You will give truth to Jacob
And mercy to Abraham,
Which You have sworn to our fathers
From days of old."
-- Micah 7:18-20
Corrie Ten Boom once said God casts our sins into the deepest ocean, then puts up a sign: "NO FISHING!"
We were listening to a recent message from Pastor Dick Bernal of Jubilee Christian Center who mentioned how -- through bad habits, sins, unpure thoughts and other vices -- we can get caught in a cycle of guilt, anger, fear and depression which can lead to hopelessness -- "will this ever end?"..... But Christ can SET US FREE from this destructive cycle as we come to Him with a repentant heart and allow Him to renew our minds and hearts (Romans 12:1,2) with the cleansing, redeeming power of His Word and His precious Holy Spirit.
Our Father God yearns for closer fellowship with us. We can enter into a closer, more intimate walk with the Lord through our daily quiet time with Him, reading and pondering His Word in our hearts and journaling on paper the truths He shares with us.
If you feel guilt or shame from doing the wrong things or from being caught in a cycle of bad habits -- take heart! Know that God is a God of a Second Chance, and He will not lay a "guilt trip" on you. That is what the enemy, the devil, the accuser of the brethren, tries to do. But don't let him! Instead, rely on and lean on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our Faith. Ask for His help, and He will provide it! He is always faithful. Remember -- Christ will never let you down! Go forth with victory in knowing Jesus is for us. Hallelujah!
It might help to pray this powerful little prayer every so often; we have seen people get tears in their eyes as they open their hearts to the Father Heart of God's love:
"Father God, please make up the difference between the love I received from people, and the love I that I need that only You can provide. I receive Your love into my heart, in Jesus' name. Amen."
7/23/07: DON'T GIVE UP — HOLD YOUR GROUND!
Perhaps you or someone you know is presently going through a tough challenge. It could be in your health, finances, relationships — even your ministry.
Maybe you've done all you can or know to do and yet..... you've reached a plateau and it doesn't seem to matter that whatever you do, the results appear to remain the same.
Even in the midst of your darkest hour and your deepest need, it's good to be reminded that God cares for you and He is for you! He's right there in the midst of your troubles, knowing perfectly well what you are going through. His Son, Jesus, living a perfect, sinless life on earth, went through the same challenges we face ...... and more, as He was on the Cross taking on all our sicknesses, infirmities and sin on our behalf (Isaiah 53:4-5).
In this hour, we believe God wants to speak a WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT to the Body of Christ: Don't give up, but HOLD YOUR GROUND! Even when you don't see the results you'd like to see, remain faithful to what God would have you to do and keep pressing forward. God wants us to be courageous even in the face of life's perplexing challenges, and He promises us a great harvest of blessings when we keep pressing onward (Galatians 6:9).
Rev. Dick Mills, who ministers prophetically and powerfully from God's Word, shared about the account of Shammah, one of David's mighty men of valor mentioned in 2 Samuel 23:11-12. Shammah was being surrounded by the enemy, yet against all odds, he courageously stood his ground and successfully defended his territory. The Bible says out of this experience, "the Lord brought about a great victory"!
Likewise, the Lord wants us to take courage and stand our ground against the enemy. For example, if you are being challenged in your health, keep pressing in to Jesus, claiming His healing promises in the Bible and remain faithful in the things you need to do to facilitate health and healing in your life.
Dr. Oral Roberts mentioned something recently that caught our attention and was a good reminder: God heals supernaturally, but He also expects us to do our part in making wise use of the wellness tools He has given us. This includes eating the right foods, getting the right nutrition, exercising regularly, getting adequate rest and sleep, and so forth.
Ephesians 6:13 exhorts us to take our position in Jesus and keep pressing on in Him. After having done all, STAND. Stand on God's Word. Stand on His promises. Stand by being faithful in doing your part, and God will do His part. God bless you — as you KEEP ON KEEPING ON for JESUS!
6/23/06: FEELING ABANDONED…
You may have heard and even sung praise selections composed by renown Gospel worship leader Steve Fry. His highly-acclaimed “We Are Called” musical is one of the best-selling worship albums of all time.
Steve mentions a season in his life when he felt “utterly abandoned”. It was in the midst of this painful time that he composed the heart-stirring worship anthem, “Oh, I Want to Know You More”. It’s a song that has literally gone around the world which God has used mightily to bring healing to millions of people.
Out of his feelings of utter abandonment, Steve learned a powerful lesson — he was at a crossroads of sorts, and had an important choice to make….. He could have become bitter, and allow the feelings of abandonment to eat away at his soul, like a spreading cancer — or he could become better. He chose the latter, and through this painful experience, he became desperate to know and pursue God with even greater fervor and passion, and the Lord used this to birth a song that has touched multitudes of people.
Perhaps you are feeling abandoned right now. It could be a friend had forsaken you, or let you down…. Maybe it was a parent who left the family and never came back….. Perhaps you might even feel abandoned by God.
Often, these feelings of abandonment as well as painful memories from childhood are carried well into our adult years. It can adversely affect the way we think, view the world, communicate with people — and even impact the way we view God and how we relate to Him.
Bitterness and resentment — arising from feelings of abandonment and other emotions — are two attitudes that can insidiously creep into our hearts if we allow them to. And if we are not careful, bitterness can be like a valve that can actually stop the flow of God’s love and blessings into our lives.
The choice is up to us whether we allow bitterness to take control as the hand that tightens the valve, or let go of bitterness and allow God’s love to flow in and through us.
God’s Love Letter to us in Hebrews 13:5 reads, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” Even when people may fail us, God is always there for us. In fact, before we showed any love toward Him, He took the initiative and loved us first (I John 4:19).
It may help to remember that our Lord and Savior, Jesus was abandoned by His own disciples as he was arrested and crucified. One of His twelve disciples even betrayed Him, and in a weak moment, another disciple denied Him (whom Jesus later restored in John 21:15-19).
Jesus also experienced abandonment to an unimaginable, profound degree as He cried out on the Cross, “Father, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46) as He who was sinless took upon Himself our sins in our place and graciously bore the penalty of sin in His body.
Jesus Himself knew what it was like to be betrayed and abandoned.
If you feel abandoned, may you be encouraged to find a quiet place free of distractions and tell God honestly how you feel, then ask God for the strength to forgive people for abandoning you (and ask God for His forgiveness if you have feelings of abandonment towards Him). It may be helpful to pray parts of the Inner Healing / Healing of Memories Prayer from Betty Tapscott’s material, which is posted on this site.
Then as part of the healing process, ask Jesus to walk you through various memories of the past, including times you felt abandoned, and ask Him to heal those memories.
Invite the Holy Spirit to bring healing to your soul and spirit, and then simply wait and bask in God’s presence as you open your heart and allow Him to bring His gifts of healing and peace and love in Jesus’ name.
Ask God boldy to give you a picture, a vision of Jesus reaching out to you with His arms open wide, waiting to give you a big hug.
It has been said that the ultimate reason man was created is to worship God, and to enjoy Him forever.
When we begin to discover and take to heart the reason for our existence — that is, to have close, intimate fellowship with God our Creator, and to enjoy Him each and every day in our walk with Him — this is the most effective way we can be healed and be set free from feelings of abandonment, and begin to live the victorious Christian life as we fulfill the exciting and awesome destiny God has planned for each of us.
The Amplified Bible beautifully illustrates the concept of waiting as found in Isaiah 40:31: “But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.”
As we wait on the Lord and grow in our trust in Him, we will soon have that knowing in our hearts that God has always been with us and for us all along.
And as we ask God to reveal to us why we may feel abandoned, He may very well be speaking to our hearts that those feelings represent a divine dissatisfaction, so that we will no longer settle for what worked in the past in our relationship with God, but pursue after Him in greater measure and at a deeper level as we mature and grow in our walk with the Lord.
Nothing is ever wasted in God’s economy. Through the pain of feeling abandoned, we can discover valuable lessons of patience, perseverance in our trust in God, and experience an increase in our hunger after Him and His Word which we might not have experienced otherwise. And as God brings healing and restoration to our lives, we in turn can share God's love through our testimony to encourage others going through similar challenges.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 declares, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you", says the LORD, "thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."
A good exercise to practice regularly is to personalize Scriptures (such as this one) by inserting your name in place of the word “you” and read it out loud, over and over, so you can hear yourself saying these words. It's a great "faith booster"! (Romans 10:17).
God bless you as you allow His Word to permeate your soul and to be a healing balm and an encouragement to you as you seek His precious healing presence.
4/19/06: THE "SECRET" TO LIVING THE VICTORIOUS LIFE IS THE "SECRET PLACE”
Psalms 91:1 declares, “He who dwells in the SECRET place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (NKJV, emphasis added).
More than ever, the Lord is impressing upon His body the utmost urgency and the importance to get alone with Him daily, seeking His face in the “Secret Place” of our prayer closets and quiet times of fellowship with our Heavenly Father — not just to seek His hand, that is, what He can DO for us in healing, prosperity, and so forth — but even above that..... to seek HIS FACE — to see His glory, to bask in His presence, to commune intimately with Him.
And as Psalms 91:1 declares, when we truly seek God in that secret place of intimacy with Him, we can experience such closeness to Him that it is like being in the shadow of the One we love; as long as we are in close communion with our Heavenly Father, we will be in the shadow of His protection.
Rev. David Yongghi Cho, pastor of the world’s largest church with over 800,000 active members, has been known to seek God in prayer up to four hours or more daily.
God often brings healing to us — physically and emotionally — when we literally “SOAK” in the presence of Jesus. John Arnott, senior pastor of Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, says he could not do half of all that he has accomplished for the Lord if it weren’t for the fact that he spends at least two hours or more daily in prayer, soaking in God's presence, and finds his day goes so much better when he invests those crucial hours in prayer during the early part of the day.
Evangelist Benny Hinn recently taught the “secret” to successfully fulfilling one’s God-given destiny is to WAIT upon the Lord (Isaiah 40:31). He says when we are completely silent before God (Psalm 46:10) not saying or even thinking one word, but focusing on the Lord — that is when the Holy Spirit comes and we sense the power, the majesty and the holiness of God’s presence.
Indeed, Bible reading, prayer and singing praises to our God are all very important things to do in our prayer closet. At the same time, God is speaking about the need for a greater place in our prayer life for complete silence and quietness before the Lord, so that we can hear His voice, feel His heartbeat and know the Father heart of God..... His desire is that souls would come into His kingdom in greater measure, and He wants to use each of us as believers to facilitate the immense end-time harvest that is happening now, as people are more receptive than ever to receiving Jesus. This is especially timely, as the Lord has spoken through Benny Hinn and other servants of God that we are entering a time of a mighty harvest of souls.
God is not willing that any should perish, but that ALL would come to repentance and receive His gift of salvation through Jesus (2 Peter 3:9). Truly, salvation — healing of the spirit — is THE greatest healing of all.
Our family has personally found that when we commit to a time of daily prayer in the secret place of seeking God’s face, we are blessed with His presence, His joy and peace, and often, God will reveal to us what is on His heart, what is His Plan, His solutions to problems, and innovative ways to accomplish things with “wise and witty inventions” (Prov. 8:12, KJV).
The ultimate KEY, the paramount BOTTOM LINE — is our complete, total SURRENDER to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives. It’s not about our agenda or even so much about our desires and plans, although these are important — in essence, it goes beyond..... It is all about God's plan for us (Jeremiah 29:11-13) — and experiencing His great love for us (I John 4:10). And He will reveal His unique plan for each of us, when we commit to get alone with Him in His presence on a daily basis.
Christ Himself set the prime example of balancing active ministry with a regular prayer life during the time He walked this earth (Luke 5:16).
He went IN to the presence of His heavenly Father for spiritual edification, strengthening and direction, and then went OUT to do ministry — healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead.
He lived a life of exemplary balance.
Bible scholars estimate our Saviour and Lord came away from His earthly ministry to commune alone with God the Father no less than 30 major times in the span of three and a half years, in addition to constant, daily prayer.
One of the most important healing Scriptures is found in II Chronicles 7:14:
“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
The footnote in the Spirit-filled Life Bible NKJV says this passage carries a two-fold condition, but with a three-fold result of blessing: if we humble ourselves by turning away from sin and SEEK God’s face in prayer, then the Lord will hear, forgive and heal. The Hunters teach that our God is a God of “His part” and “our part”. His blessings of healing, new revelation, divine insights and empowerment for effective ministry are the tremendous benefits we will experience when we seek the Lord’s face, and not just His hand, and live a life of obedience to God and His Word (James 1:22).
When we have a fervent desire to experience more of God’s healing power, and to be empowered to do more for the Lord, to be a greater blessing to His body and to the people in the circle of influence the Lord has given us — let us therefore be challenged and encouraged more than ever in these last days to make it a daily habit to spend more quality time seeking God’s face and His precious presence in complete, holy submission and surrender to Him.
Our Lord Jesus and our Heavenly Father and His precious Holy Spirit longingly await our fellowship and intimate communion ........ in the quiet solitude of “THE SECRET PLACE.”
3/14/06: WE ARE ENTERING A PERIOD OF TIME OF SPEAKING FAITH WORDS OF HEALING!
On Benny Hinn's program, Dr. Oral Roberts was asked what is God saying about the present time in which we are living....... He said we are now in a time when we need to speak WORDS OF FAITH..... We need to be proactive.... HEALING will occur when we do OUR PART and speak FAITH WORDS.
Dr. Roberts specifically stated that anything uttered IN FAITH will NOT DIE but will go forth and accomplish its purpose.
This promise is accompanied by a warning: When we speak negativity or profess failure, we will have what we say. Instead, we need to profess FAITH, and that’s when healing will take place. Dr. Roberts recounted the time when a parent took his daughter to see him, and how this parent proceeded to talk about his daughter being attacked by relatives, and all manner of evil would befall her, and the daughter would cower as she heard these negative words being spoken over her life. He said the father ought to have confessed and professed God’s blessings for that child.
Each day, Dr. Roberts says he speaks WORDS of FAITH over his life. God has honored his faith and has blessed him tremendously. We are being challenged and encouraged to speak aloud God’s Word of FAITH, as the Bible says faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
Let’s shake off the negative, and speak POWERFUL, POSITIVE WORDS of FAITH in Jesus’ name, and anticipate GREAT THINGS in the Lord as we see His healing power increase in this generation. To God be the glory! Hallelujah!
