You Are Accepted!

The following is an excerpt fromThe Spirit-Filled Believer’s Daily Devotional by Dick Mills.  We have been granted special permission to reprint excerpts from this devotional such as the one that follows, which we pray will be a special blessing to you:

“He has made us accepted in the Beloved.”

— Ephesians 1:6

Accepted in the Beloved.   What an encouraging word.  In this world, with its constant search for affection, approval, and acceptance, it is good to know that we Christians are accepted in the Beloved.  We do not have to struggle for acceptance, we already have it.  How comforting to know that our Father will not love us any more (or less!) in the future than He does right now.

Sometimes the best way to understand a word is to find out how it is used elsewhere.  This word accepted is no exception.  In the original Greek text, it is charitoo (khar-ee-to'-o), and is closely related to the grace word charis.  Charitoo is defined as  "highly favored", "graced with honor", and "accepted".  It only appears one other time in the New Testament and that is in Luke 1:28 when the angel appeared to Mary and called her by her name.... "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" (NKJ).  The word used to tell Mary that she was highly favored by being selected by the Lord for a very special task is the same word used to describe all Christians.  We have also been highly favored by being selected of God.

Mary was chosen to bring about the Lord's first coming into the world.  All believers [in Jesus] have been chosen to bring about the Lord's Second Coming into the world.

Quit putting yourself down.  If you are a Christian, you are not an outcast, you are charitoo —  accepted in the Beloved!

Looking Ahead:  The New Year

The following is an excerpt fromThe Spirit-Filled Believer’s Daily Devotional by Dick Mills.  We have been granted special permission to reprint the following devotional, which we pray will be a special blessing to you:

           ______________________________________________________

“Be strong and of a good courage.....”

— Joshua 1:9

Joshua 1:9 provides us with two words for looking ahead to the new year:  strength and courage.  The Lord issued this statement as a command to Joshua.  Often we think of God's commands as being stricly prohibitive ("thou shalt not").  Here the command is quite affirmative.  The Bible tells us that the commandments of the Lord are not grievous (or cumbersome)  (I John 5:3).

The thing to remember is that each commandment given us by the Lord carries with it the enablement of its own fulfillment.  That is, each command comes with an assurance that you and I are able to perform it.  God, in His inifinite love and mercy, would never issue an order we are not capable of carrying out.

Strength and courage are the two qualities the Lord demands of us as we face the unknown future.  Strength and courage are ideal characteristics for making progress into the new year.

Courage is found in the inner man, and strength is shown in bodily action.  This command coincides with Philippians 2:13 in which the Apostle Paul declares that it is the Lord Who works in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure.  Courage and strength are placed into our frame by the LORD.  Courage motivates our will, and strength accompanies effort.

It is incongruous to say, "I have a lot of courage, but no strength," or, "I am a powerhouse of energy, but am afraid."  The best confession is:  "The LORD is my strength for this year. The LORD is my source of courage for this year."

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,

that whoever believes in Him will not perish,

but have everlasting life."                                               —  John 3:16

If there is ANY doubt whatsoever that you will be in heaven, simply say this from the bottom of your heart:

“Father God, forgive my sins.  Jesus, come into my heart.  Make me the kind of person YOU want me to be.

THANK YOU for saving me TODAY.”   Where is Jesus now?   If you can say, “He’s in my heart”,

CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a child of God!  To begin your new life in Christ, we encourage you to

read your Bible every day, talk to God in prayer daily, regularly attend a church that preaches about Christ

and His love, and tell others about this most important decision you’ve made.  Let us know, too, by clicking

resources to help you as you embark on this most exciting journey.  Place your complete trust in Christ —

He will never let you down!
